PROPER PUBS LOOKS TO ADDRESS NATIONAL RECRUITMENT ISSUE

Proper Pubs, the award-winning community wet-led operator division of Admiral Taverns which has over 200 pubs across England, Scotland and Wales, has launched a brand-new ‘Meet the Team’ initiative to address the nationwide hospitality recruitment issue, providing greater awareness of the opportunities available to run a local, community pub.

Since the end of July, Proper Pubs has been hosting a series of open days at several of its sites across the country to combat this issue. The events are designed to offer insight into running a community pub and to highlight the benefits of working within the hospitality industry.

Each open day is hosted at a Proper Pub and led by the Business Development Manager and a Recruitment Executive for the area. This provides individuals with the opportunity to learn more about the pub industry and gain firsthand insights into the benefits of the Proper Pubs model.

Pubs hosting an upcoming open day include the Cossham Inn in Bristol, the New Griffin in Hull, The Queens in Bredbrury and the Cros Foxes in Pentre Broughton.

As a rapidly expanding business with pubs that sit at the heart of communities across the UK, Proper Pubs is committed to building strong partnerships with all operators and empowering them to create long-term, sustainable businesses. Over the last 12 months, the number of Proper Pubs increased from 160 to over 200. With the backing from Admiral Taverns, the UK’s leading community pub company, Proper Pubs provides operators with unparalleled support and advice whilst offering the freedom of being self-employed.

Ceri Radford, Head of Recruitment at Admiral Taverns, commented: “I am delighted that we have launched this initiative to showcase what Proper Pubs is all about and what we can offer prospective operators. With the pub and brewing industries alone supporting almost one million jobs across the UK, there is so much potential for those interested in running a community pub and this provides a great opportunity for anyone considering running their own pub to learn more about what it is like working with Proper Pubs. No experience is necessary and we look forward to welcoming visitors from across the country.”

Esther Ryan, Operator at The Church Inn in Lowton, added: “Since attending one of Proper Pubs’ open days, I made the decision to take on a site – alongside my partner, Jason – and recently came to the helm of the Church Inn in Lowton. We took over the pub back in July following an incredible £265,000 refurbishment and it’s been an incredible experience.

The support we’ve received from Proper Pubs has been fantastic and we absolutely love working with such a friendly, professional team and being at the heart of our local community. I’d highly recommend that anyone interested in running a pub attends one of the ‘Meet the Team’ days as it provides a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the model and speak to likeminded individuals with firsthand experience of running community pubs.”

Proper Pubs is always looking for ways to support its communities through an annual schedule of events and fundraising initiatives. In March, it was crowned Community Pub Operator at the prestigious Publican Awards, and in the lead up to Christmas 2023, Proper Pubs donated 20,000 Christmas selection boxes and other festive treats to local charities and has been recognised for its UK-wide defibrillator fundraising and installation campaign which has already saved 11 lives.
