TAKE A LOOK INSIDE NEW LIVERPOOL PUB FOLLOWING £262,000 MAKEOVER

The Railway on Bridge Road in Liverpool reopened last Friday 18th October following a major investment of £262,000. The pub is part of Proper Pubs – the award-winning community wet-led operator division of Admiral Taverns – which has more than 200 pubs across England, Scotland and Wales.
Inside, the pub has been transformed with a full internal and external refurbishment including a revamp to the bar area as well as brand new furniture, fixtures, fittings and flooring throughout to give it a fresh, modernised look. Outside, The Railway has been repainted and features brand new lighting and signage to greet customers.
To celebrate the reopening, customers were treated to a drinks reception with live music from local artist Justine Magdalene on Friday 18th October with a regular drumbeat of entertainment continuing throughout the weekend.
The Railway offers a wide range of drinks offers, including Wine Wednesday, where customers can get £2 off a bottle, Fizz Friday, offering customers a bottle of fizz for £10, along with cocktails, bottle and shot deals throughout the week.
Jamie Leicester and Gareth Furness, Operators of The Railway, said: “We thoroughly enjoyed our opening weekend – it was amazing to be able to celebrate the opening with family, friends and our team! We have been delighted by the incredible reception that we have received from the local community already and for forward to all that’s to come for The Railway
We would love to thank everyone who played a part in helping us bring our vision to life, including the team at Proper Pubs who have been incredibly supportive throughout this whole process, and we can’t wait to cement the pub at the heart of the community.”
On top of the fantastic drink selection, The Railway runs a busy schedule of entertainment including regular karaoke, live music, weekly quizzes and bingo nights and DJ sets as well as hosting regular darts and pool teams to bring customers together.
Jamie and Gareth also plan to introduce frequent fundraising events for causes close to the hearts of the local community such as Claire House Children’s Hospice.
Matthew Gurney, Operations Director for Proper Pubs, said: “The refurbishment at The Railway has been a huge success and it was wonderful to see how well the opening weekend went – Jamie, Gareth and the whole team have been a joy to work with from start to finish!
On behalf of the Proper Pubs team, we would like to wish our community heroes, Jamie and Gareth, every success in making The Railway a fantastic hub of the community.”
Proper Pubs is always looking for ways to support its communities through an annual schedule of events and fundraising initiatives. In March, it was crowned Community Pub Operator at the Publican Awards, and more recently raised nearly £100,000 in just three months for various local charities across the UK. In September 2024, the Group successfully donated enough food to local foodbanks across the UK to feed 1,300 people for a week and has also been recognised for its UK-wide defibrillator installation campaign which has already saved 11 lives.
