TAKE A LOOK INSIDE NEW WORCESTER PUB FOLLOWING £178,000 MAKEOVER

The Goodrest Tavern on Barker Street in Worcester hosted a reopening party last Thursday 19th September following a major investment of £178,000. The pub is part of Proper Pubs – the award-winning community wet-led operator division of Admiral Taverns – which has more than 200 pubs across England, Scotland and Wales.

As part of the investment, the pub has revamped its games offering by updating the dartboards, pool tables and skittle alley for customers to enjoy. In addition, outside the pub now features a spacious beer garden, seating up to 100 people with two heaters, which can be used all year round.

To celebrate the reopening, customers were treated to a live music performance from local artist, Mike Skillbeck on Thursday. The live music continued over the weekend with local singer, Chris Farr, performing on Friday night. This was followed by a DJ set from Vinyl Ritchie on Saturday followed by a performance from Becky Rok on Sunday.

The Goodrest Tavern offers a wide range of drinks offers, including Wine Wednesday, where customers can get £2 off a bottle, Fizz Friday, offering customers a bottle of fizz for £10, along with cocktails, bottle and shot deals throughout the week.

Craig Davis, Operator of the Goodrest Tavern, said: “We thoroughly enjoyed the reopening weekend where we were able to celebrate with all the local community. It was great to welcome back both old and new customers and we have already received great feedback. We can’t wait for what’s to come!

I would like to thank everyone at Proper Pubs and the whole team here who have been working tirelessly to get the pub ready for the return of our customers and for their continued support.”

On top of the fantastic drinks selection, The Goodrest Tavern runs a busy schedule of entertainment including regular live music, quiz nights and bingo and hosts regular pool and darts teams for the more competitive visitors to enjoy.

Going forward, Craig hopes to run a series of fundraising events for causes that are meaningful to the local community and is always open to suggestions from residents.

Matthew Gurney, Operations Director for Proper Pubs, said: “The refurbishment at the Goodrest Tavern looks amazing and it was great to see how successful the opening weekend was – Craig and the whole team have been brilliant throughout this entire process.

On behalf of the Proper Pubs team, we would like to wish our community hero, Craig, every success in making the Goodrest Tavern a fantastic hub of the community.”

Proper Pubs is always looking for ways to support its communities through an annual schedule of events and fundraising initiatives. In March, it was crowned Community Pub Operator at the prestigious Publican Awards, and in the lead up to Christmas last year, Proper Pubs donated 20,000 Christmas selection boxes and other festive treats to local charities. The Group has also been recognised for its UK-wide defibrillator fundraising and installation campaign which has already saved 11 lives.
